What kind of events may cause the onset of fibromyalgia?
Events commonly reported by fibromyalgia patients who are able to identify a triggering event of their condition include an automobile accident, fall, a repetitive work tasks, such as those associated with the development of carpal tunnel syndrome, infection, disease, pregnancy, and the onset of menopause.
Some patients report that their fibromyalgia symptoms developed during a period of severe emotional stress during their life or single emotionally traumatizing event, when muscles are likely to be tensed either suddenly or over a long period of time. Veteran’s diagnosed with post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTS) often display symptoms of fibromyalgia.
