How is guaifenesin used to treat fibromyalgia?

Guaifenesin therapy was developed by Dr. R. Paul St. Amand. It is experimental, and to date the support for this therapy remains anecdotal. Guaifenesin is not a cure for fibromyalgia (there is no cure for this disease). It is theorized that guaifenesin, a common expectorant, allows the kidneys to eliminate excess phosphates and calcium from the diet. Excess oxalates, which have been linked to kidney stones and vulvitis, may also be eliminated.
