What is the difference between primary fibromyalgia and post-traumatic fibromyalgia ?
While some physicians feel that post-traumatic fibromyalgia and primary fibromyalgia are the same condition, others differentiate between fibromyalgia patients that can link the onset of symptoms directly to a physical trauma, and those who do not. Doctors that recognize the existence of post-traumatic fibromyalgia note that physical trauma directly causes soft tissue changes that may lead to the clinical syndrome of fibromyalgia.
Post-traumatic fibromyalgia may cause painful tender points located only in the region of the injury, and may not develop tender points in all 11 of the 18 tender points to meet the criteria for fibromyalgia syndrome defined by the American College of Rheumatology.
