fibromyalgia information

How is the myofascia affected by fibromyalgia ?

The myofascial tissue appears to tighten and thicken in those with FMS and a condition that often coexists with fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). The tightened myofascia causes physical pain, and it’s thickening may make it difficult for neurotransmitters to communicate messages to between the muscles and the brain.

The body is therefore unable to signal the brain that muscles need to be repaired, or to properly inform the brain that an area is repaired so that painful sensations will cease. Myofascial tightness may also cause areas of the body to feel swollen, although no swelling may be visible.
