fibromyalgia information

How does fibromyalgia disrupt sleep ?

Sleep physiologists (polysomnographers) have noted that fibromyalgia patients spend an abnormal amount of time in the lightest phase of sleep, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Their cycles of non-REM sleep, stage 1, 2, 3, and 4 sleep, are repeatedly disrupted by rapid (alpha) waves of electrical activity. Since the body repairs itself during the deep sleep characterized by slow delta waves, normal cellular repair is disrupted in those with fibromyalgia.
