Is insomnia a symptom of Fibromyalgia?
People with fibromyalgia are subject to sleep disturbances, and this may contribute to their feelings of fatigue and mental confusion during the day. Some studies suggest that fibromyalgia patients have a sleep disorder called alpha wave interrupted sleep pattern, a condition that causes them to spend more time in the lightest stage of sleep, and disrupting the deep restorative stage of sleep in which the body repairs itself (stage 4).
In addition, fibromyalgia patients are often wakened by nighttime muscle spasms—restless legs syndrome has been found to coexist with fibromyalgia in many patients.
