fibromyalgia information

How is fibromyalgia treated ?

There is no one treatment or cure to date that has been found to be universally effective in fibromyalgia patients. A combination of treatments with medications such as muscle relaxants, sleep modifiers, antidepressants, and pain relievers can be helpful. Injection at the site of trigger points and “spray and stretch” can also help, as can massage, moist heat, ice packs, stretching exercises, and weight training to strengthen the muscles that support the joints. Triiodothyronine (T3) thyroid supplements have also been used to treat FMS--many hypothyroid symptoms, such as cold sensitivity, hair loss, and fatigue mimic those of fibromyalgia. In addition, FMS patients may benefit from psychological counseling to help them deal with physical and mental limitations, depression, and feelings of isolation.
