Can acupuncture help treat fibromyalgia pain ?
Acupuncture originated in China, where it is believed that the body’s state of physical and mental well-being depends on the free flow of energy through 14 paths, or meridians, in the body. An acupuncturist restores the flow of the energy by applying pressure with their fingers (acupressure) or by inserting very fine needles (acupuncture) into the skin. It is worth noting that many points used in acupuncture correspond with defined fibromyalgia tender points and myofascial trigger points. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), acupuncture may help control pain associated with fibromyalgia. Neurologists, chiropractors, and chronic pain centers often offer acupuncture to complement medical treatment.
